I Reward One Step-son While the Other Can Only Watch

My two step-sons get home from taking their university finals. The usual failure, of course, didn't pass and will not graduate. My favorite step-son got the highest grade in his class, and graduated with honors. I make it readily apparent to the unsuccessful step-son that I do NOT reward failure. First I promise my favorite step-son a dinner on me, and a celebration of his success later on. Later that night both boys come out complaining that their rooms are hot because the air conditioner quit working. They both ask to stay in my room where I have a spare. I refuse one step-son, but of course, not the other. Once we are in my room I show him what truly celebrating his success looks like. That is, until we are interrupted by his loser step-brother peaking through the door watching us.
